Group Classes

Group fitness classes are at the heart of what we do. Our classes are led by experienced & enthusiastic coaches who work to make sure each class is effective, safe, and fun. Brightside CrossFit, Weightlifting, and Community Fitness classes offer an excellent opportunity for community-building and camraderie and often provide an boost of motivation right when you need it most.

Brightside CrossFit

CrossFit is a strength and conditioning program designed to promote broad all-around fitness and help athletes improve across 10 general physical skills: cardiovascular/respiratory endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, power, speed, coordination, agility, balance, and accuracy.

Brightside CrossFit classes are different every day and can be modified to help athletes of a wide range of ages and abilities improve their general fitness. Each 60 minute CrossFit class starts with a guided warm up, includes technical instruction and drills to help you improve your movement mechanics and feature the Workout of the Day (WOD).

WODs are built on a diverse set of functional movements that are integral to daily life; things like squatting, hinging, pulling, pushing, and jumping. Workouts often incorporate equipment like jump ropes, dumbbells, kettlebells, and barbells. You can expect the length and intensity of the WOD to vary from day to day.

Classes are capped at 12 people and you must sign up in advance. We recommend attending at least three classes a week and not more than six.

Please note, while we strive to make classes accessible to a broad range of abilities and experience levels, CrossFit is not a good fit for everyone due to the inherent limitations of the group class format. If you have injuries or movement limitations, please feel free to contact us so we can help you determine if CrossFit is right for you.

PREREQUISITE: Completion of Brightside Barbell Fundamentals or six months previous experience at a CrossFit affiliated gym.

Brightside Community Workouts

Brightside Community Workouts are boot camp style classes suitable for all levels. Classes combine bodyweight movements (e.g. squats, push ups, sit ups, burpees) with jump ropes, short runs, and easy-to-learn dumbbell and kettlebell movements. Coaches will offer you guidance about how to adapt the workout as needed to meet your current abilities.

No membership is necessary to join this class. Class fee for non-members is $5-$20, sliding scale, no one turned away for lack of funds. Participants should bring a yoga mat, towel, or blanket that can be used outside. All other equipment is provided. Advance sign up is required. Classes are capped at 20 people.

A portion of the fees collected from the Brightside Community Workout are donated each month to a local nonprofit. Past beneficiaries include the Anti-Police Terror Project, Asian Health Services, People’s Program (aka the People’s Breakfast), California Wildfire Relief Fund, and Trans Law Center.

PREREQUISITE: No previous experience is necessary! However, advanced registration is required. Class fee is $5-$20 sliding scale, NOTAFLOF. Click here to sign up for a Brightside Community Workout membership and reserve your spot in our next community workout. Class fees can be paid when you arrive.

Brightside Barbell Club

Weightlifting with a capital “W” is an Olympic sport in which athletes compete with two lifts: the Snatch and Clean & Jerk. Brightside Barbell Club is designed for athletes who want to focus on improving their Clean & Jerk and Snatch.

Each 75 minute class includes progressions and drills to help you perfect your Clean & Jerk and Snatch technique, accessory work to build strength, and no cardio. :) From time to time, class members will participate in local Weightlifting competitions. Competing is strictly optional.

Classes are capped at 10 people. If your primary goal at Brightside is to improve in the Olympic lifts, we recommend attending Barbell Club twice a week. If you are also attending CrossFit classes, please note, Barbell Club and CrossFit are programmed independently and there may be times where it makes sense to prioritize attendance at one class over then other depending on your goals. Your coaches can provide guidance based on your goals.

PREREQUISITE: Completion of Brightside Barbell Fundamentals or six months of previous experience at a CrossFit affiliated gym or working with a USAW certified Weightlifting coach.
